newspapers are influenced depending on who they follow. Some are in favour of certain party's

thi s can influence an audience. For example a passive audience for the sun may just accept the right wing beliefs shared on that newspaper.

Freedom of the press = the right to circulate opinions in print without censorship by the government
1. Leveson Inquiry
- Famous people such as Jk Rowling and Sienna Miller suffered personal invasion from the press. It included extremely violating acts such as phone hacking and following them in the streets, even stalking Rowling's 6 year old daughter and putting messages in her school bag.
- Murdered girl story as well??
- The point of the Leveson inquiry is to give the 'real people', or just people presented in the news their own freedom. The point is to give a balance between the freedom rights of the press and the rights of the individuals in the news.
2. IPSO
- Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO)
- Is a regulator of magazines and newspapers and their online counterparts
- Funded by magazines and newspaper companies
- Any member of the public can make a complaint to the IPSO
3. OFCOM
- Broadcasting regulator
- If a person sees something on TV that they believe should not have been broadcast, they can make a complaint to them.
- It could be about advertising, something that was said or something that was offensive.
