Representation
Representation
How are people represented across the different platforms?
- The website is predominantly white people, instagram has many more people of all races
- Instagram represents the younger, more liberal generation, by giving more representation to people of all races. In contrast, the website seems to have pictures of predominantly white people (older, more conservative target audience- more hard news)
- Rapper on instagram- much more celebrity based- younger audience
- Some story's aren't reported across all 3 platforms (music= culture (the instagram is much more celebrity and culture based)
- Instagram does not post as much as the other 3 platforms, because of the target audience
- The other 3 platform (observer online, social and participatory media, twitter) all coincide with each other
- The 'comment is free' website is a place where anyone, journalists or not can post an article on the guardian observer website, and members of the public are also able to comment. This is a place where political conversation and debate can occur.
comment free section
- Shows that the guardian is very much liberal, or centrist, adhering to the scot trust's values
- This is because it gives a platform for people of all political opinions to debate, and freely express their opinions. This is very open minded, and therefore liberal.
- Provides a place for people of the centre right, centre left and everyone in between to debate. Hard left or hard right opinions probably would't be appreciated, as it definitely isn't adhering to opinions anywhere near liberal. However, this rare minority of people probably would't even consume the guardian's media, let alone contribute to this comment free section as their extreme political opinions wouldn't even be represented or referred to.
